The Aimpoint Micro T-2 is a rugged, compact tube-style red dot sight with an 18mm clear aperture and a 2 Minute of Angle (MOA) LED projected red dot reticle.
Powered by a single CR2032 Lithium battery, the optic has an expected average battery life of 50,000 hrs. The T2 is suitable for rifle, carbine, shotgun, and even handgun applications for close-range engagements under austere environments.
Aimpoint AB is a recognized leader in red dot sight technology and the red dot sight’s originator 45 years ago.
The company is Sweden based and was established in 1975.
Aimpoint sights have been in military service since 1997 and continue to be fielded in law enforcement agencies. Several militaries include the U.S. Army, where I first become familiar with them.
Bottom Line Up Front
The Aimpoint T-2 is the perfect Keep it Simple Stupid (KISS) solution for those looking for a top-performing compact red dot sight fit for duty.
Aimpoint optics have been proven repeatedly in service and comes highly endorsed by many professional shooters and operators.
This red dot sight simply gets the job done in almost any environment under the harshest conditions you could ever find yourself operating in.
The Micro T-2 is one of the most reliable, action-ready red dot sights you can put on a lead slinger.
Top Features of the Aimpoint T2
DESIGN
The Micro T-2 is a tube-style compact red dot sight machined from high strength aluminum making for an optic rugged yet light, weighing only 3.4 oz with the battery included.
The sight’s body is coated with a hard-anodized black non-glare finish to protect from scratching and withstand corrosion via occasional contamination by lubricants, cleaner, and oils.
Being a compact red dot sight, the Aimpoint T2 maintains a small form factor with a 2.7 in length X 1.6 in width X 1.4 in height along with a clear aperture diameter of 18mm.
The shape and size allow for a sleek, discreet presentation during engagements that enable snag-free rapid target acquisition/observation and situational awareness.
Aimpoint specifies that the optic is submersible to 25 meters; this is consistent with the Ingress Protection Code of IP68. You won’t have to worry about water or dust intrusion.
The Aimpoint T-2 incorporates advanced optical lenses that are coated to reduce glare. We noticed how clear these lenses are, unlike some lenses that often have a slightly blueish or green hue.
Another thing to note about the lenses of the T-2 is that the front lens of this optic is tilted, allowing for a crisper reticle dot and no observable forward optical signature from the dot when viewed from the front beyond 10 meters using the NVD brightness setting.
RETICLE
The Aimpoint Micro T2 has a single 2 MOA red dot reticle produced by a red Light-Emitting Diode (LED) at a wavelength of 655nm +/- 10nm.
There are 12 reticle intensity settings to ensure adequate brightness to match the various ambient light conditions you may encounter.
Settings 1-4 is compatible with Night Vision Devices (NVD), while settings 5-12 are for daytime use.
Adjustments to the brightness levels are accomplished through a single side-mounted rotary-style intensity switch.
I feel that the rotary switch provides adequate tactile feedback when making brightness adjustments.
OPERATION
Powered by a single CR2032 3v lithium coin battery, the Micro T-2 will provide approximately 50,000 hrs of battery life when set on the level 6 brightness setting.
Aimpoint can achieve such a high battery life through its Advanced Circuit Efficiency Technology (ACET), a propriety low power consumption diode circuitry system.
This allows you to continuously leave the optic on for up to five years, ensuring that the optic is ready for use at all times.
The battery compartment is under the rotary switch, so I prefer to change the battery annually since they are cheap, and it doesn't require you to remove the optic to do so.
You know that Robert Rogers' 28 Rules of Ranging; Rule 1 "so as to be ready on any emergency to march at a minute's warning" thing.
The operation of the Aimpoint T-2 could not be any simpler.
To adjust the brightness, simply rotate the side mounted switch to the desired brightness level appropriate for the expected ambient light condition.
Adjusting the windage and elevation is just as straight forward as the reticle brightness.
Both the elevation and the windage adjustments are in .5 MOA increments, translating to a .5 inches point of impact movement at 100 yds, or 13 mm point of impact movement at 100 m.
The windage adjustment knob is mounted on the optic’s right side just behind the brightness adjustment rotary switch. The elevation adjustment knob is mounted in the top rear section of the sight.
Adjustments are made by removing the protective caps and using the provided adjustment tool or the windage cap to turn the adjustment screw.
Turning the windage adjustment screw counter-clockwise will move the point of impact to the right, while turning the elevation adjustment screw counter-clockwise will move the point of impact down.
When in doubt, the adjustment directions are marked inside the windage cap.
Although the adjustment screw does provide tactile feedback, I would prefer a little more resistance and click.
MOUNTING
The Aimpoint Micro T-2 does not come with a mount.
Depending on your desired application low mount, 1/3 co-witness, or a full co-witness, you will have to purchase a separate mounting base.
My favorite mount for absolute co-witness is the 1.42" center height over rail Scalarworks LEAP (SW0100).
And if you’re after a lower third co-witness, try the 1.57" center height over rail Scalarworks LEAP (SW0100).
I like these mounts because they are lightweight and very durable and have a highly reliable quick detachment mechanism.

Other Great Features of The Aimpoint T-2
The Aimpoint included advanced optical lenses that provide a very clear and crisp image. This viewing experience with this optic is outstanding, with very little tinting often encountered with other optics.
The light transmission provides a bright a clear aperture facilitating target acquisition and distinction.
The T-2 includes front and rear flip-up lenses covers to keep the dust and moisture off the lens’s surface when not in use. These covers are removable.
My favorite setup for this optic is to rotate the flip-up covers so that they flip-down and out of the way. I also prefer to place a flash kill using the existing threads in the sight housing in front of the forward lens.
I am not always a fan of adding a magnifier for non-holographic red dot sights, but the Aimpoint Micro T-2 delivers such a crisp reticle dot that adding a 3X magnifier such as the Aimpoint 3XMAG-1 works well for extending engagement range out to intermediated distance without too much reticle blossoming.Specifications For The Micro T-2

Aimpoint Micro T-2 vs. T-1
- 1Refinement of the reticle dot clarity and shape, through improved lens coatings and a slightly canted front lens in the T-2 as opposed to a perpendicular to the line of sight front lens of the Micro T-1.
- 2Raised turrets to the front of and behind the elevation adjustment screw atop of the T-2 versus the unguarded elevation adjustment screw of the T-1.
- 3The inclusion of flip-up front and rear covers with the Micro T-2 versus the T-1 bikini style lens covers.
- 4With the Aimpoint T-2, you get reinforced threaded inserts for mounting the optic to the base versus the Micro T-1 aluminum threads prone to stripping out.
The upgrades added to the Micro T-2 from the previous Aimpoint Micro T-1 model included items or enhancements requested mainly by customers. So kudos to Aimpoint for listening.
Pros vs. Cons of the Micro T-2
The Pros
The Aimpoint T-2 is one of the most rugged red dot sights in the market, constructed to be highly shocked proof as well as resistant to a vast array of conditions and operating environments.
With a five-year battery life under continuous operation using the level 6 brightness level, the T-2 will be ready for application at any time when the need calls.
The T-2 is lightweight with a small, sleek, unobtrusive design that allows for full situational awareness while employing both eyes open engagement posture.
The optic is ideally suited for military, on duty, and personal defense applications.
The Cons
Aimpoints optics tend to land on the upper end of the cost spectrum, and the T-2 is no exception. This is not a big issue if your life may rest on a reliably functioning optic.
For the high price, you do not get a mount and have to purchase this separately. I think this is something Aimpoint could easily solve, although everyone's needs are different and likely would not satisfy all of the customers’ requirements.
Limited features, now I do see this as a con but suspect it is the simplicity in design and electronics that allow this optic to withstand some pretty grueling conditions where most other sights would fail.
